What are the different types of M.S. and what are they about? |
A:Clinically there are:
a. Benign MS. This is one end of the spectrum that is difficult to
evaluate, because these patients may not ever see a doctor. Some people
have no or minimal progression, and no or very few attacks. They are
essentially normal on examination and have no trouble with life's ordinary
activities. There are also people who have MS and never know they have MS.
b. Relapsing/remitting (R/R)--attacks with recovery
c. Primary progressive--gradual worsining from onset; no attacks
d. Secondary progressive--R/R, then progressive ± attacks
possibly related:
a. Optic neuritis
b. Transverse myelitis
c. Devic's disease (severe a+b)In the brain:
d. damage with repair
e. damage with no repair
f. different types of immune cells
But, is this all the same disease with variation between different people,
or is it several related diseases? |
